Our new initiative for Applebrook pets in 2012 is the
P.R.E.V.E.N.T campaign
Each letter of the acronym represents a broader topic that should be addressed for every animal living with or near people.
P is for Parasites
Our pets are susceptible to parasites of the heart/lungs, GI tract, skin and even the urinary system. Some of these parasites are "zoonotic" (represent a human health risk). Let us show you how to protect your pets and family from these harmful infections and infestations.
R is for Routine Screening
Because our patients are non-verbal, we rely on screening tests to communicate with us about what may be going on with your pets. Not every test is applicable for every patient and our skilled staff is here to help you decide which ones could benefit your pet.
E is for Examination
A full physical exam is vital to pets' continued good health. We utilize our skills and specialized equipment to uncover signs of current or future problems. We will log and track important health parameters, just like physicians do for their human patients.
V is for Vaccination
Not every vaccine is right for every pet. We can help you decide what your own pet's risk factors are to be sure he or she is protected while avoiding unnecessary injections. Your pet's vaccination schedule will be very individualized for your pet.
E is for Educating Owners
You are there with your pet each day and you need to be shown how to be your pet's best friend. You need to know what to watch for, what to feed and how much and many other tips about keeping your pet healthy. It is our job to teach these things to our pet owners.
N is for Nutrition
Nutrition is an often overlooked, but critically important component to your pet's health. We have the knowledge and training to show you how to read pet food labels and make the best choices. We can also show you how much food is appropriate for your pet, based on his age, breed, species, gender and lifestyle. You are what you eat and so is your pet.
T is for Training
Your pet is a valued member of your household. If he or she is having training or behavior issues, it damages your human-animal bond. Some training issues are actually medical problems and work up of all behavior problems should start with a medical evaluation.
